What are the best lighting settings for a movie night?

When watching TV or binge-watching your favorite series, a dimmed backlight makes sense.

Whether it's Netflix, DAZN, Amazon Prime or conventional channels: If the room is completely dark except for the TV, your eyes will tire much more quickly and it can even lead to headaches or concentration problems. So it's better to use your smart lamps to create atmospheric background light. The intensity should be around 20 to 25 percent. The lighting mood and color depends on the color scheme of your film. Soft yellow or pink are suitable for comedies or dramas, while dark blue is better for action films. It gets exciting with series like Game of Thrones: Here the color scheme has changed over time from warm tones to cool, bluish tones.

What is the best lighting for a dinner evening?

At the dining table at home, it's a bit like in a good restaurant: you eat with your eyes! This also applies to the lighting, of course.

The key here is to find the right level of coziness and at the same time to perfectly showcase your dishes. However, we don't want to put any limits on your creativity here. In general, we recommend that you use several light sources in the area of your dining table. The larger the table, the more light sources you should use. Lights that hang directly above your table and shine downwards act as spot or area lighting. They can have a fairly neutral color or white tone, but should not be bluish. It becomes really cozy as soon as this spot lighting is flanked by warmer light. You can work perfectly with indirect lighting or lamps in other parts of the room. Do you want it even cozier? Then you can rely on the smart vintage lamps from Klyqa. A stylish atmosphere and a relaxed evening are guaranteed with this retro lighting with an elegant flair.

How do I simulate my presence with light – for example to ward off burglars?

Smart lighting can help protect you and your home from burglars, as the dark winter months are the most dangerous.

In Germany, December has been the year in which there have been the most burglaries for many years. In fact, there are about three times as many burglaries as in July – this is also confirmed by current figures from the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA).

It gets dark early, people are either at work or out doing Christmas shopping and the dark windows of the house or apartment signal that no one is home! The most popular time for burglaries is by no means at night, but between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m.

However, with smart routines and irregular lighting, you can mislead burglars and protect your home. If Klyqa had existed back then, Home Alone would definitely have been shorter and a little less exciting.

If you are away from home for a longer period of time, we recommend that you set between three and ten different routines for your smart lighting to simulate your presence.

  • Routine 1: In the room facing the street, the light comes on at 10 a.m. three days a week. To save electricity, dimming the light by 20 to 40% is sufficient.
  • Routine 2: On two more days the light in this room turns on at 9:50 a.m.
  • Routine 3: On the last two remaining days, maybe not until around 10:20 am.
  • Routines 4 to 9: To get some exercise, the lights should be turned on and off. Create routines that turn the lights off in one room and on in another. Again, make sure that it is not the same every day of the week.
  • Routine 10: From around 4 p.m., increase the brightness of your smart lamps.

Oh yes, in the future you will also be able to connect your light to the upcoming Klyqa alarm system. Spotlight on the burglar!

What should I pay attention to when creating bedtime routines?

Our body doesn't have an on/off switch, so it's important to slowly prepare it for a good night's sleep.

Of course, you can also do this with a calming herbal tea or hot milk with honey, but lighting plays an even more important role. It has been proven that we have trouble falling asleep if we are exposed to intense, bluish light until shortly before going to bed. Your bedtime routine should therefore focus on warm white to reddish light. Similar to a sunset.

To do this, choose a time for your bedtime routine when you want to go into relaxation mode on an average weekday evening. If you have to get up early, you can start your routine as early as 8 p.m., but for night owls it might not start until 11 p.m. Pay attention to what suits you and your daily routine best. Under the "Task" item, you now choose a warm and dimmed light for the devices and rooms to be controlled. For example, with an intensity of 60 percent.

You can then set up additional routines that will dim the light further and further. With a final routine, you can then set the time for it to be switched off completely. Good night and sleep well!

How can I wake up with daylight?

Wake up feeling kissed by the sun. Daylight is essential for our internal clock to function properly.

It helps us to be productive, efficient and healthy. To ensure that your body can relax optimally, you should sleep in complete darkness at night. Instead of annoying alarm clocks, you can simply let your smart Klyqa lamp wake you up in the morning with gentle sunlight and start the day well rested.

To do this, create a new routine at a time when you want to be woken up during the week. We recommend that you create three different routines one after the other. The first starts about 15 minutes before you get up with the task “10% light” for a Klyqa lamp in your bedroom. Ten minutes later, you start a second routine that includes a second lamp and sets both lamps to 20% intensity. You will really wake up when you use the third routine to light up all the smart lamps in your bedroom at 30% brightness five minutes later. We recommend that you choose a light temperature of 6500 Kelvin and more for all three routines - i.e. more bluish light. This stimulates your body and mind, making it awake and fit. Klyqa wishes you a great day!

How do I create a color gradient with multiple smart lamps in the room?

Color gradients can have a great effect and be a real eye-catcher in your home.

Two examples:

  • Linear color gradient: If you have a long hallway with six Klyqa lights, all hanging in a row from the ceiling or illuminating the floor as a spot, you can create impressive lighting in rainbow colors.
  • Radial color gradient: Is your room square and has lamps on the walls and several pendant lights in the middle? Then you can create a radial color gradient by letting the color mood go from reddish on the walls to bluish in the middle.

But enough of the dry theory: Now we will show you how to create a harmonious color gradient with your Klyqa lamps :

On the home page of your Klyqa app you will find the function 'Add new room'. You have to give the new room a name and select all the appropriate devices or lamps. After you have pressed 'Save new room', you can select different colors, shades of white or scenes for all the light bulbs separately.

For example, if you want to create a color gradient in the hallway, you can select a different color for each lamp. Let the first one shine blue, the second purple, the third red, and the last ones orange.

Or try a brightness gradient: All lamps have the same color temperature but different intensities. We bet that will look really good? Experiment a bit and achieve great effects in your home.

Now that you have set up your first room, you can also link routines and timers to your newly created room. This works via the clock symbol at the bottom of the bar in your app. Then select 'New Routine' or 'New Timer', give it a name and select the entire room instead of the individual light bulbs.

There is a second option that allows you to select a color scene for a series of lamps. To do this, go to the clock in the Finder at the bottom of our app, then to the + at the top and select 'Create group'. You can configure the group however you like, how about a 'Hallway' group with all the spotlights and lamps in the hallway, or 'Chandelier', which contains all the bulbs of your huge lamp. Once you have created a group, you will find it under 'Devices'. You can now select a color scene for your groups that affects all the lamps at once.
